What is BOTOX?
BOTOX Cosmetic is a non-surgical cosmetic enhancement treatment. The cosmetic solution is prescription medicine that we inject into muscles to temporarily improve the look of both moderate a severe wrinkles and frown lines in areas such as the forehead, crows feet, and between the eye brows. BOTOX is the only approved treatment to improve these lines.
How it Works
Over the years, people develop lines and wrinkles from reduction of collagen or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. Lines and wrinkles are also developed by frowning or concentrating. The muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. When BOTOX is injected, it temporarily reduce muscle activity by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles where there has been repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years.
Injections usually take only 10-15 minutes and there is virtually no down time. This is why BOTOX is often called the “lunchtime” procedure. You can come in, have it done, and return to normal activity or work. The injections are made with very fine needles and it is done with very minimal pain. Avoid NSAIDS and aspirins or any other blood-thinning medication so you will avoid bruising. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows after the BOTOX is injected, but full results are apparent between 3-5 days. Results can last 3-5 months depending on your metabolism. Once injections begin to fade, results can be maintained with a follow up.
There is typically no downtime for BOTOX and you can return to normal activities immediately after. We recommend that you do not lay down for at least 4 hours following the procedure and do not exercise for 24 hours. You may experience minor bruising, swelling, and/or redness in targeted areas where BOTOX was injected, but will disappear within 24 hours.
